Plan the step toward a full starting XI

A 9v9 team has eight outfield players plus the goalkeeper. The default 3-3-2 separates them into a back three, a midfield three and two forwards. For a team moving up from seven-a-side, the diagram makes the additional roles visible without adding eleven positions.

Compare four nine-player shapes

Use 3-2-3 to spread three players across the forward line, 3-4-1 for four midfielders supporting a single forward, or 2-4-2 for a back two and two forwards. The builder preserves player names when you change shape; check who occupies each new role.

Keep the wider squad ready

Using the 9-a-side builder

Does the 9v9 count include the goalkeeper?

Yes. Nine starters means one goalkeeper and eight outfield players. For example, 3-3-2 accounts for the eight outfield positions.

Can I build a 3-4-1 or 2-4-2 lineup?

Yes. Setup includes 3-3-2, 3-2-3, 3-4-1 and 2-4-2. Every option uses nine starting positions including the goalkeeper.

Will a saved 11-a-side draft replace my nine-player setup?

No. This page starts with a blank 9-a-side lineup. Saved drafts appear below the editor and only load when you choose Open. New lineup returns this page to its blank 3-3-2 setup.
