Organise a compact five-player team

With just four outfield players, each starting role is easy to see. The 1-2-1 diamond gives you a defender, two wider players and a forward in front of the goalkeeper. Use it to communicate a starting arrangement for a casual game or small-sided team.

Adjust the shape between games

Choose 2-1-1 to start with two defenders, or 1-1-2 to put two players higher up the pitch. Players carry across when you switch shape. For a short series of games, duplicate a saved lineup and adjust the starters instead of entering the whole team again.

Using the 5-a-side builder

How many outfield players are in a 5v5 lineup?

Four. The fifth player is the goalkeeper. A 1-2-1 formation adds up to four because it describes the outfield shape.

Can I use a different shape from the diamond?

Yes. Setup offers 1-2-1, 2-1-1 and 1-1-2. Each has the same five starting positions including the goalkeeper.

Can I include more than five names?

Yes. Keep five starters on the pitch and add the rest in Remaining squad. Select bench players and enable the bench display to include them in the exported graphic.
