Use the extra outfield player

Six-a-side adds a fifth outfield role to a five-player team. The default 2-2-1 places two defenders behind two midfielders and one forward, with a goalkeeper behind them. It gives you a clear way to show midfield support without arranging a full starting XI.

Choose where the support belongs

Try 1-3-1 for a three-player midfield line, or 2-1-2 for a pair of forwards. All three shapes contain six starters. Add names first, change the formation in Setup and then review the positions; the right balance depends on who is available and how your team plays.

Share the plan for your next game

Set the team name and colours, enter shirt numbers if you use them and add your substitutes below the pitch. Keep a browser draft for later edits or download a PNG to send to the group. If you change the match format, review the remaining squad as well as the starting positions.

Using the 6-a-side builder

Is 6-a-side the same as six outfield players?

No. This 6v6 builder includes a goalkeeper and five outfield players. Choose 7-a-side if you need six outfield players plus a goalkeeper.

Which 6-a-side formations can I make?

Choose 2-2-1, 1-3-1 or 2-1-2 in Setup. The numbers describe the five outfield players; the goalkeeper has a separate position.

What happens if only five players are available?

Change the format to 5-a-side in Setup. The builder adapts the starting positions and carries displaced named players into Remaining squad. Review both lists before exporting.
